Stephen Album sale 50, lot 3608

This specimen was lot 3608 in Stephen Album sale 50 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $114. The catalog description[1] noted, "AFGHANISTAN: Amanullah, 1919-1929, AR 1/2 afghani, SH1306 year 9, a wonderful mint state example! PCGS graded MS64, ex Hakim Hamidi Collection." Coins of this period are sometimes dated on the traditional Muslim calendar, or on the Solar Hegira calendar, as here, which starts on the same date as the traditional Hegira calendar but uses solar years rather than lunar years. One hundred pul made an afghani. This type was struck SH 1304-1306 (years 7, 8, 9).
