This specimen was lot 2661 in Stephen Album sale 50 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $144. The catalog description[1] noted, "BRITISH INDIA : George V, 1910-1936, AR 1/2 rupee, 1934(c), a superb example! NGC graded MS65." This half rupee was struck at the Calcutta mint at the end of the reign of George V. It was never minted in the immense numbers of the George V rupees but it is not rare, being struck steadily 1912-30, 1933-36. Bombay minted none between 1928 and 1936. The minting of rupees effectively ceased after 1922.
Recorded mintage: 4,056,000 plus proofs and restrikes.
