Künker sale 406, lot 3632

This specimen was lot 3632 in Künker sale 406 (Osnabruck, March 2024), where it sold for €16,000 (about US$20,994 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RUSSLAND, Republik seit 1992. 1.000 Rubel 2008, Moskau. UNESCO Welterbestätten in Russland - Vulkane auf Kamtschatka. 155,50 g Feingold. GOLD. RR Nur 250 Exemplare geprägt. Polierte Platte. (Russia, one thousand rubles of 2008, Moscow mint, UNESCO Heritage sites--volcanos in Kamchatka. Very rare, only 250 pieces struck, proof.)"

In an attempt to shore the regime's desperate finances, dozens of NCLT's on every imaginable topic were minted and marketed after the fall of communism. This one seems to have escaped the notice of the SCWC.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 155.5 g, 0.999 fine gold, 50 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM unlisted, Fr-339.
