Künker sale 406, lot 3634

This specimen was lot 3634 in Künker sale 406 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €750 (about US$984 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RUSSLAND, Republik seit 1992. 50 Rubel 2008, St. Petersburg. Schützt unsere Umwelt - Biber. 7,78 g Feingold. GOLD. Polierte Platte. (Russia, fifty rubles of 2008, St. Petersburg mint, Save Our World series, beaver. Proof.)"

In an attempt to shore the regime's desperate finances, dozens of NCLT's on every imaginable topic were minted and marketed after the fall of communism. This one and the accompanying 100 rubles featured the endangered European beaver. Silver coins were also included in the set.
