At present (March 2024), US$1 = R$5 but the real is still in use. Brazil endured currency reforms in 1942, 1967, 1986, 1989, 1990, 1993 and 1994. Wikipedia comments, "Combined with all previous currency changes in the country's history, this reform [of 1994] made the new real equal to 2.75 × 1018 (2.75 quintillion) of Brazil's original réis."
