Künker sale 293, lot 899

This specimen was lot 899 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabruck, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €750 (about US$1,011 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"HESSEN, HESSEN-DARMSTADT, SEIT 1806 GROSSHERZOGTUM, Ludewig (X.) I. (1790-) 1806-1830. Kronentaler 1819. Feine Patina, winz. Schrötlingsfehler, vorzüglich. (grand duchy of Hesse-Darmstadt, Louis I, 1806-30, crown thaler of 1819. Fine patina, minor edge defects, extremely fine.)"

This scarce type is labeled a kronenthaler to distinguish it from the convention thaler such as Dav-698, which was 28.06 g, 0.833 fine silver.
