This specimen was lot 4336 in Goldberg sale 74 (Los Angeles, June 2013), where it sold for $276 including buyer's fees. The catalog description[1] noted, "German States - Hesse-Darmstadt. Taler, 1825-HR. Ludwig X. Toned. Scarce type. NGC graded AU-50. The George C. Follis Collection." This one year type, the only thaler issued between 1819 and 1833, is scarce. It is a kronenthaler, not a convention thaler, which was 28.06 g.
