Great Britain 1890 farthing

Stack's Bowers 2023 ANA sale, lot 56185

This specimen was lot 56185 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Pittsburgh, PA, August 2023), where it sold for $80. The catalog description^[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Farthing, 1890. London Mint. Victoria. PCGS MS-65 Red." This type was introduced in 1860 with a slightly modified obverse used 1874-95. Numerous varieties exist, some rare. The Heaton mint contributed farthings, halfpence and pence in 1874-76 and 1881-82.

Recorded mintage: 2,133,000 plus proofs.

Specification: 2.5 g, bronze, 20 mm diameter.
