This specimen was lot 73643 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2023), where it sold for $100. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Wolfenbuttel. 1/4 Taler, 1604. Goslar Mint; mm: heart on crossed mining tools. Heinrich Julius. PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, EF Details. This example exhibits medium gray surfaces with a thin layer of champagne throughout. Slightly unevenly struck in the legends, likely due to the flan being slightly thin toward the one edge. Nonetheless, a solid example of this early type with particular clarity in the arms of the reverse and a bold Wild Man. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." This quarter thaler was struck 1600-13 and despite the many years of production, is rather scarce. A half thaler (KM 22) also exists.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver.

Catalog reference: KM-5; Welter-664A.
