from the Stack's Bowers June 2021 Collector's Choice sale, lot 71527

This specimen was lot 71527 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2021), where it sold for $2,400. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. 5 Pounds, 2006. Llantrisant Mint. NGC PROOF-69 Ultra Cameo. Seemingly flawless, this radiant Gem is free from any toning or haziness, and presents a captivating mirrored nature in the fields." This type was struck 1998-2008, as a revival of the old five pounds struck in Victorian and Edwardian times. It was accompanied by a gold two pounds and sovereign, also not intended to circulate.

Recorded mintage: 1,750 proofs.

Specification: 39.94 g, 0.917 fine gold, 1.1775 oz AGW.
