This specimen was lot 71526 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2021), where it sold for $2,400. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. 5 Pounds, 2004. Llantrisant Mint. NGC PROOF-69 Ultra Cameo. Impressively preserved with bold cameo features and no tone or signs of handling to speak of." This type was struck 1998-2008, as a revival of the old five pounds struck in Victorian and Edwardian times. It was accompanied by a gold two pounds and sovereign, also not intended to circulate.
Recorded mintage: 1,000 + 1,750 proofs.
