from Sincona sale 11, lot 1426

This specimen was lot 1426 in Sincona sale 11 (Zurich, May 2013), where it sold for 475 CHF (about US$588 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"FRANKREICH Louis Philippe, 1830-1848. 1 Franc 1831, Paris. Vorzüglich-FDC. (France, Louis Philippe (1830-48), one franc of 1831, Paris mint. Extremely fine to uncirculated.)"

. This issue, from the Paris mint, is from a type struck 1831 only. This design, by Tiolier, was replaced by the Domard bust used 1832-48. It was demonetized in 1869. A complete set of this type comprises twelve mintmarks, many very rare, tho this date is common.

Recorded mintage: 202,325[2].

Specification: 23 mm diameter, 5 grams, 0.900 fine silver, reeded edge. Designed by Nicolas-Pierre Tiolier, this specimen 5.05 g.
