Sedwick sale 25, lot 1665

This specimen was lot 1665 in Sedwick sale 25 (Winter Park, FL, May 2018), where it sold for $119. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Mexico City, Mexico, cob 1/2 real, 1728(D), rare. Bold full date above crown and full mintmark (off-center), nice full cross, oblong flan, silvery AVF." Assayer D is noted for 1726-30. This specimen is a silver cob half real struck at Mexico City several years before the conversion to milled coinage. Specimens with clear dates are unusual.
