France 1736-T ecu
This specimen was lot 350 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 28 (Winter Park, FL, November 2020), where it sold for $510. The catalog description[1] noted, "France (Nantes mint), ecu, Louis XV, 1736-T, ex-Jones. Choice specimen with full XF/AU details against evenly toned fields, light surface corrosion and heavy adjustment marks (typical), very solid overall. Pedigreed to the Dr. Peter Jones collection and to our Auction 24, with original lot-tag #615 and certificate from the salvor. Recovered from: Le Dromedaire, sunk in 1762 off Cape Verde Islands, west of Africa." This coin is an écu aux branches d'olivier from the Nantes mint. Nantes mint issues are known for the entire span of the type (1726-40) and most dates are common.
