This specimen was lot 24845 in Heritage sale 3016 (Orlando, FL, January 2012), where it sold for $1,380. The catalog description[1] noted, "Carlos IV gold 8 Escudos 1790 IJ, about VF, cleaned with some light scratches. Scarce transitional type featuring the bust of Carlos III." This type is listed for Peru 1789-91 and is quite scarce. The fineness was lowered from .901 to .875 in 1785. Assayer IJ is recorded for 1787-1803.
