This specimen was issued by Indonesia in 1979 only. No ten rupiah have been struck since. Indonesia obtained independence from the Netherlands in 1949 and has struggled since to remain united. Many in the outlying islands feel little allegiance to the corrupt and brutal regime in Jakarta. This type honor the F.A.O. Despite the prodigious mintage of this issue, Indonesian coinage is rather scanty for such a large nation (more than 260 million people) and some commemorative issues are so rare the SCWC lacks a photo of them. In 1982, US$1 = 650 rupiah; today (October 2019) US$1 = 14,138 rupiah.
Recorded mintage: 285,670,000.
Specification: 1.9 g, aluminum, 25 mm diameter.
Catalog reference: KM 44.
