Indonesia 1974 5000 rupiah

from the Stack's Bowers 2018 Collector's Choice sale, lot 71074

This specimen was lot 71074 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, May 2018), where it sold for $312. The catalog description^[1] noted, "INDONESIA. 5,000 Rupiah, 1974. NGC PROOF-68 ULTRA CAMEO. Wildlife conservation series. Orangutan. Brilliant with hard mirrored fields and frosted cameo devices. No spots, fog or tone." This NCLT was accompanied by a silver 2000 rupiah (KM 39) and gold 100,000 rupiah (KM 41).

Recorded mintage: 43,000 (KM 40) plus 17,000 proofs (KM 40a).

Specification: KM 40: 32 g, 0.500 fine silver; KM 40a: 35 g, 0.925 fine silver, both 42 mm diameter.
