This specimen was lot 1443 in Stephen Album sale 43 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2022), where it sold for $2,880. The catalog description[1] noted, "EGYPT: Arab Republic, AV 100 pounds, 1990-FM, Ancient Egyptian Culture - Sphinx, estimated mintage of only 5,000 pieces, PCGS graded Proof 69 DCAM, Scarce." This coin has the Franklin Mint "FM" on the reverse but we wonder if it was really struck there as the Franklin Mint ceasing coining around 1985. It's possible the replacement contractor included the mintmark when copying the dies. Other gold ten pounds issued in 1990 include KM 681 and KM 684.
Recorded mintage: 5,000.
Specification: 17 g, 0.900 fine gold.
Catalog reference: KM-693, Fr-225.
