Jean Elsen sale 149, lot 1909

This specimen was lot 1909 in Jean Elsen sale 149 (Brussels, December 2021), where it sold for €300 (about US$406 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"NEDERLAND, GELDERLAND, Provincie, AR Nederlandse rijksdaalder, 1614. Vz/ Geharnast en gelauwerd borstbeeld n.r. met zwaard en provinciewapen. Kz/ Gekroond Generaliteitswapen tussen jaartal. goede Zeer Fraai. Uit onze lijst 255, januari 2011, 873. (Netherlands, province of Gelderland, Dutch rijksdaalder of 1614. Obverse: armored bust to right with sword and provincial arms; reverse: crowned arms of the Generality divides the date. good Very Fine.)"

As Dav-8832, this type was issued 1593-1600 and as Dav-4828 it was issued 1606-99, where it appears in the SCWC. Numerous mintmarks are recorded, including KM 16.1 (cross mintmark, shown here) struck 1606-31; KM 16.5 (diamond) 1608 only; KM 16.2 (lily) struck 1643, 1648-53; KM 16.3 (dog) struck 1652-59, 1662, 1674-76, 1680, 1683; KM 16.4 (lily/dog) struck 1652-56; KM 16.6 (dog/lily) struck 1665; and KM 16a (mintmark knight on horse) struck 1699.
