Saxe-Weimar 1623-GA thaler Dav-7532
This type was struck 1623 only in Saxe-Weimar and is fairly common despite being a one year type. This specimen was lot 13150 in Ponterio sale 177 (Chicago, August 2013), where it sold for $1,998. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Saxe-Weimar. Taler, 1623-GA. NGC AU-53. Joint Rule of Eight." An "eight brothers" type is also noted for 1623 (Dav-7531). This particular permutation of Saxe-Weimar, known as Saxe-Middle-Weimar, lasted 1605-40.
