Künker sale 352, lot 1164

This specimen was lot 1164 in Künker sale 352 (Osnabruck, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €2,600 (about US$3,619 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Frederik V. 1746-1766. Dukat 1747, Kopenhagen. Guinea-Gold. GOLD. R Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (kingdom of Denmark, Frederick V, 1746-66, ducat of 1747, Copenhagen mint, from African gold. Rare, very fine to extremely fine.)"

The king did not mint ducats every year but in 1747 he had three different ducats issued, all rare: KM 564, 565 and 566 (shown here). Until 1813, one ducat = 2 speciedaler = 12 mark = 192 skilling Danske.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.49 g, .979 fine gold, this specimen 3,47 g.

Catalog reference: KM 566, Fr-273; Hede 13.
