This specimen was lot 71600 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2021), where it sold for $600. The catalog description[1] noted, "HUNGARY. 1/2 Taler, 1792-A. Vienna Mint. Franz II. NGC AU-58. The most elusive date of this three-year type, this nearly Mint State example exhibits dappled multicolored tone throughout the semi-reflective fields. Listed in the Standard Catalog of World Coins with a value of $475 in XF condition and $725 in UNC." This type was struck 1792-94 and is scarce. Another half thaler (KM 405) was struck 1790-92 for Joseph II.
