Durango 1914 5 centavos KM-631a
This specimen was lot 72179 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2023), where it sold for $384. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Durango. Brass 5 Centavos, 1914. PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, AU Details. Retrograde "N" in "DURANGO". This Mexican Revolution issue exhibits a rather full strike with great detail. While light cleaning is noted, glints of lustrous brilliance remain on the brassy fields." This denomination was struck in copper (most common), brass, lead and even copper-nickel. It is likely the local revolutionaries struck coins from whatever metal they could get their hands on.
