Peru 1684-L V 8 reales
This specimen was lot 57401 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Pittsburgh, PA, August 2023), where it sold for $600. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU. Cob 8 Reales, 1684-L V. Lima Mint. Charles II. PCGS Genuine--Corrosion Removed, AU Details. From the Jerome S. Reznick Collection." This type was struck for Charles II 1684-1701. The vast majority lack legible dates. Many, such as this one, are corroded from burial or sea salvage. "Royals" (round, fully struck presentation pieces) exist for this date.
