This specimen was lot 83 in Aureo y Calicó sale 448 (Barcelona, March 2025), where it sold for 28,000 € (about US$36,577 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "Ferran II (1479-1516). Barcelona. Double principat. Obv.: Bust right, behind, escutcheon of the Sanchezes. FERDINANDVS:DEI:GRACIA●REX●. Rev.: Coat of arms between B and B with the arms of Sicily-Catalonia-Naples tierced vertically. ARAGONVM*COMES BARCh. Nice. Lovely color. Very rare, especially in this condition. EBC- [about extremely fine]. Ex Aureo & Calico Selection 2019, no. 106. Ex Golf Collection. Purchased by Xavier Calicó in a private deal in 1972." This rare type was issued by Ferdinand of Aragon just before he and his wife Isabella issued a unified gold coinage based on the excelente.
