Sincona sale 66, lot 1766

This specimen was lot 1766 in Sincona sale 66 (Zürich, October 2020), where it sold for 1,300 CHF (about US$1,712 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"HEILIGES ROMISCH REICH, Erzherzog Leopold V. 1619-1632. Dukat o. J. Hall. Selten. Fast vorzüglich. Leicht gewellt. (Austria, archduke Leopold, 1619-32, undated ducat, Hall mint. Rare, About extremely fine, Slightly wavy flan.)"

Leopold was among the last of the Hapsburg archdukes permitted to strike his own coinage. He never mounted the thone as emperor. This issue is probably KM 771 but might be KM 620. Both are rare.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.49 g, 0.986 fine gold, this specimen 3.44 g.

Catalog reference: KM 771 or KM 620, Moser/Tursky 484 var. Fr-184.
