Sincona sale 76, lot 1608

This specimen was lot 1608 in Sincona sale 76 (Zurich, May 2022), where it sold for 5,000 CHF (about US$6,069 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SWEDEN. Ulrike Eleonore, 1719-1720. 4 Mark 1720, Stockholm. Mit der Signatur LC (Lorentz Careelberg, Münzmeister in Stockholm, 1706-1722). Sehr selten. Gutes vorzüglich. NGC AU58. Feine Patina. (kingdom of Sweden, Ulrika Eleonora, 1719-20, four mark of 1720, Stockholm mint, mintmaster's initials LC. Very rare, Good extremely fine, Nicely toned.)"

This denomination, which was worth about 9/16 of a riksdaler, was struck for both Ulrika Eleonora (shown here) and Frederick I ([[Sweden 1720-LC 4 mark KM-387|KM 387) in 1720. The denomination was retired in 1755.

Recorded mintage: 10,000 (which may include KM 387).

Specification: 20.80 g, 0.694 fine silver, 0.464 troy oz ASW, this specimen 20.36 g.
