Italy 1993-R 500 lire KM-160

The specimen shown is from a type struck in Rome to commemorate the centennial of the Bank of Italy. The obverse of the regular 500 lire (KM 111) was used. This denomination proved popular and convenient for various silver commemoratives issued until the introduction of the euro in 2002 (see the "centennial" and "Dante" commemoratives).

Recorded mintage: 90,000,000 plus 8,500 proofs.

Specification: 6.8 g, "bronzital" (aluminum bronze) core with a "acmonital" (stainless steel) ring, 25.8 mm diameter.
