The specimen shown is was struck in Rome for Italy in 1961. It commemorates the centennial of the unification of Italy in 1861. It was extensively saved and is today common. This size and denomination proved popular and convenient for various commemoratives issued until the introduction of the euro in 2002.

Recorded mintage: 27,120,000.

Specification: 11 g, 0.835 fine silver, edge lettered "1o CENTENARIO VNITA D'ITALIA * 1861-1961 *", 29.3 mm diameter, designed by Guido Veroi.
