The specimen shown is from a type struck in Rome for Italy 1958-2001. The issues after 1967 were for various mint sets. This size and denomination proved popular and convenient for various commemoratives issued until the introduction of the euro in 2002 (see the "centennial" and "Dante" commemoratives).

Recorded mintage: 13,120,000.

Specification: 11 g, 0.835 fine silver, 29.3 mm diameter, edge lettered "REPUBBLICA ITALIANA **** 1966 ****", designed by Guido Veroi and Pietro Giampaoli.
