Jean Elsen sale 151, lot 1261

This specimen was lot 1261 in Jean Elsen sale 151 (Brussels, June 2022), where it sold for €900 (about US$1,124 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"VLAANDEREN, Graafschap, Philips IV (1621-1665), AR dukaton, 1658, Brugge. Tweede type. Vz/ Geharnarst bb. r. Kz/ Gekroond wapenschild gesteund door twee leeuwen. Onderaan het juweel van het Gulden Vlies. Zeldzaam Gereinigd. Zeer Fraai. (county of Flanders, Philip IV, 1621-65, silver ducaton of 1658, Bruges mint, second type. Obverse: armored bust right; reverse: crowned arms supported by two lions, Order of the Golden Fleece around. Scarce, cleaned, Very Fine.)"

This type was struck at Bruges 1636-44, 1648-65 and is priced lower than the Brabant issues altho it does not turn up as often.

Specification: 32.48 g, 0.944 fine silver, this specimen is 32,63 g.
