Sincona sale 76, lot 1247

This specimen was lot 1247 in Sincona sale 76 (Zurich, May 2022), where it sold for 11,000 CHF (about US$13,352 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"ITALY | House of Savoy / Sardinia. Carlo Emanuele III. 1730-1773. Doppia 1755, Torino. Selten. FDC. NGC MS64*. Prachtexemplar. (Italy, kingdom of Sardinia, Charles Emanuel II, 1730-73, doppia of 1755, Turin mint. Rare, Uncirculated, Cabinet piece.)"

This type was struck 1755-72 with all dates listed as rare. Altho doppia means "double," this coin is not a double ducat but a double scudo d'oro so we have excluded it from our category of gold ducats.
