Ponterio sale 177, lot 12010

This specimen was lot 12010 in Ponterio sale 177 (Chicago, August 2013), where it sold for $1,410. The catalog description[1] noted, "AUSTRALIA. 100 Dollars, 2000. Lunar Series, Year of the Dragon. PCGS MS-69 Secure Holder." This issue is a typical example of the plethora of commemorative releases of the Canberra mint. This one, one of a series marketed to Asians, follows the Chinese lunar calendar (Year of the Rabbit, Ox, Rat, etc.). One quarter and one tenth ounce coins were also minted that year.

Recorded mintage: 2,008.

Specification: 31.1035 g, .999 fine Gold, 0.999 oz. AGW, 32.1 mm diameter, Reeded edge.
