Cyprus 1901 9 piastres
This specimen was lot 1113 in Jean Elsen sale 121 (Brussels, June 2014), where it sold for €1,780 (about US$2,851 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"CHYPRE, Victoria (1837-1901), AR 9 piastres, 1901. Fine griffe au droit et petites taches. Belle patine colorée. Rare dans cette qualité. Flan Poli. (Cyprus, Victoria (1837-1901), silver nine piastres of 1901. Fine scratch on the obverse and some small bumps. Nice colorful toning, rare in this quality, proof.)"
This silver nine piastres was struck during the reign of Victoria, queen of Great Britain 1837-1901. Tho denominated in piastres, it is the same size and weight as a British shilling.
Recorded mintage: 600,000 plus a few proofs.
