Sincona sale 35, lot 5471

This specimen was lot 5471 in Sincona sale 35 (Zurich, October 2016), where it sold for 400 CHF (about US$475 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Zurich | Stadt, Vierteldukat 1671. Selten. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (city of Zurich, quarter ducat of 1671. Rare, Very fine-extremely fine.)"

Quarter ducats were struck occasionally in Zurich in the seventeenth century. Tho not common, they are quite a bit more affordable than ducats or double ducats. This type is listed for 1671, 1677, 1692 and 1702.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 0.875 g, 0.986 fine gold, this specimen 0.86 g.
