Revision as of 12:13, 20 June 2025 by LatinKing2020 (talk | contribs) (Text replacement - "Zurich:" to "Zürich:")
This type is catalogued in the SCWC as a cruzado novo, worth 400 or 480 réis, depending on which side of the devaluation you stand. It was struck in Lisbon 1718-48 and all dates are much scarcer than the catalog indicates. This specimen was lot 941 in Sincona sale 54 (Zürich, May 2019), where it sold for 120 CHF (about US$143 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"PORTUGAL | Königreich, João V. 1706-1750. 400 Reis 1719, Lissabon. Sehr schön. (kingdom of Portugal, John V, 1706-50, 400 réis of 1719, Lisbon mint. Very fine.)"
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 1.07 g, 0.917 fine gold, .031 troy oz AGW; this specimen: 0.98 g.
