Goldberg sale 72, lot 5638
Germany 1929 5 mark rev Goldberg 72-5638.jpg

This specimen was lot 5638 in Goldberg sale 72 (Los Angeles, February 2013), where it sold for $161. The catalog description[1] noted, "Germany. 5 Reichsmark, 1929-A. For the tenth anniversary of the Weimar constitution. NGC graded MS-62." This type, issued 1929, was struck in some numbers in Berlin ("A", shown here), Munich ("D"), Muldenhutten ("E"), Stuttgart ("F"), Karlsruhe ("G") and Hamburg ("J"). It is among the more available of the Weimar commemoratives. We have included it in our category of thalers based on its size, even tho it is only 0.500 fine. Hindenburg is honored here as the president of the Reich even tho he bore only contempt for the republic.

Recorded mintage: 325,000 plus proofs.

Specification: 25 g, 0.500 fine silver, .401 troy oz ASW.

Catalog reference: Dav-971; KM-64; J-341.
