Sincona sale 94, lot 2133

This specimen was lot 2133 in Sincona sale 94 (Zürich, October 2024), where it sold for 1,600 CHF (about US$2,218 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"NIEDERLANDE Holland, Provinz, 2 Dukaten 1756, Dordrecht. Gutes sehr schön. (Netherlands, province of Holland, double ducat of 1756, Dordrecht mint. Good Very Fine.)"

Double ducats were first struck for the province of Holland in 1645. The design was modified in 1671 to use a screw press instead of the hammer (KM 47.1). A reeded edge was added in 1749 and the double ducat was struck in that form until 1793.
