Savoy (1383-91) 1/2 grosso
This specimen was lot 2002 in Sincona sale 94 (Zürich, October 2024), where it sold for 1,500 CHF (about US$2,079 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"ITALIEN Savoyen / Sardinien, Amedeo VII. 1383-1391. Mezzo Grosso o. J. (1383-1391), Susa. Grosses gotisches A, darüber ein Kreuzchen, eingefasst von einem doppelten Vierpass. Mzz. Zwei Röschen übereinander. Rv. Doppelkreuz, in den Feldern je ein Kreuzchen. Äusserst selten. Sehr schön. Leichte Prägeschwächen. (Italy, duchy of Savoy, Amadeus VII, 1383-91, undated half grosso, Susa mint. Obverse: large Gothic A, crosslet above, within a double quadrilobe; reverse: long cross cantonned with four crosslets, rosettes privy marks below. Extremely rare, Very Fine, Slightly weakly struck.)"
Amadeo was count of Savoy until his death in 1391, aged 31 years. His son, Amadeo VIII, was also antipope Felix V.
