This specimen was lot 31064 in Heritage sale 3049 (Long Beach, September 2016), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "British India. Madras Presidency gold Mohur AH 1172//6 (1817) MS63 NGC, Arkat mint. Expressing a light layer of rose color atop the golden surfaces, surrounded by towering rims that halo the script motifs. Other than a few, minor handling occurrences, this conditionally-superb example absolutely satisfies. Ex. Lawrence Adams Collection." This type was struck in Madras for the British East India Company. Varieties exist. A mohur was equal in weight to the rupee but gold.
