Austria 1887 2 florin Dav-33
This specimen was lot 23693 in Heritage sale 3026 (Long Beach, October 2013), where it sold for $6,756.25. The catalog description[2] noted, "Franz Joseph I 2 Gulden 1887, MS66 NGC, a superb example with aged silvery-gray patina and reflective surfaces. Struck to commemorate the reopening of the mines at Kuttenberg. Only 400 pieces minted and this piece is surely among the finest extant. A legendary rarity with exceptional eye appeal." The double florin superseded the old thaler and was struck 1859-92 with various busts of Franz Josef. This semi-medallic issue is included in Davenport but not in the SCWC.
