Colombia 1669-NR R 2 escudos
This specimen was lot 49 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 26 (Winter Park, FL, November 2019), where it sold for $1,547. The catalog description[1] noted, "Bogota, Colombia, cob 2 escudos, 1669R. Choice full (off-center) cross with clear 166 of date (and tail of 9), choice full shield with part of king's name in legend, traces of NR mintmark to left and assayer R to right, XF+ with dark, contrasting sediment in crevices, small part of edge slightly wrinkled." The production of cobs continued sporadically into the 1740's. It was superseded by milled portrait coinage. As with most cobs, specimens with legible dates form a minority of survivors.
