Sincona sale 73, lot 1673

This specimen was lot 1673 in Sincona sale 73 (Zurich, November 2021), where it sold for 2,500 CHF (about US$3,217 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"THE NETHERLANDS | Province of Holland. 2 Dukaten 1752. Abschlag von den Stempeln des Scheepjesschelling (6 Stüber). Seltener Jahrgang. Vorzüglich. Fassungsspuren. (Netherlands, province of Holland, double ducat of 1752, off-metal strike on six stuiver dies. Rare date, Extremely fine, Traces of mounting.)"

The circulation issue (KM 45) was struck in debased silver. The gold issue (KM 45a) was struck to double ducat weight 1702-94, most likely for presentation. Other minors, including the two stuivers, were also struck in gold.

Recorded mintage: 191,786 in silver for 1751-52; unknown in gold.

Specification: KM 45: 4.95 g, 0.583 fine silver; KM 45a: 7 g, 0.986 fine gold; this specimen 6.94 g.
