Stack's Bowers October 2025 Collectors Choice sale, lot 74017

This specimen was lot 74017 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2025), where it sold for $432. The catalog description^[1] noted, "CHILE. 2 Reales, 1783/2-So DA. Santiago Mint. Charles III. PCGS VF-20. From the Richard August Collection." This type was struck in moderate numbers 1773-89 and this is supposedly a common date. This example sold for over double the catalog value. The SCWC does not award the overdate a premium.
