This specimen was lot 70561 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, May 2018), where it sold for $840. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Hanau-Munzenberg. Teston, 1619/8/4. NGC MS-65. Sharply struck and highly lustrous with crisp details. A brilliant gem with excellent eye appeal." This type was struck 1614-20 for the count of Hanau-Munzenberg. For 1619, only the overdate is listed. One teston = 6 batzen. We have filed this under Hesse-Cassel as that is the state which annexed the county on the extinction of the dynasty.
Recorded mintage: 34,000.
Specification: silver.
Catalog reference: KM 36.
