This specimen was lot 3962 in Goldberg sale 104 (Los Angeles, June 2018), where it sold for $348. The catalog description[1] noted, "German States: Hanau-Münzenberg. Taler, 1623. Philipp Moritz, 1612-1638. Crowned arms. Reverse: Eagle. PCGS graded EF-40. From the Ora Eads Collection." We have filed this type of 1622-23 under Hesse-Cassel as that is the state which annexed the county on the extinction of the dynasty. The obverse legend of Dav-6686 reads "HAN·MVNT:" while the later Dav-6688 of 1622-27 reads "HANAV·R·MVNT".

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver.

Catalog reference: KM 57.1, Dav-6686.
