This specimen was lot 44715 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Costa Mesa, CA, August 2021), where it sold for $720. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Sovereign, 1965. London Mint. PCGS MS-65 Gold Shield. An attractive Gem quality Sovereign with frosty surfaces and pale golden color. From the Sundial Valley Farms Collection." This type was struck 1957-68 for sale to collectors and bullion speculators and did not circulate altho some show signs of mishandling. The next issue (KM 919) was struck in 1974.
Recorded mintage: 3,800,000.
Specification: 7.99 g, 0.917 fine gold, 22 mm diameter, 0.2355 troy oz AGW.
