This specimen was lot 72478 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2023), where it sold for $100. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Crown, 1965. London Mint. Elizabeth II. NGC MS-65. The classic Churchill commemorative, this Gem yields some enchanting toning and a high degree of shimmering brilliance." This was the first crown struck since 1960, when a commemorative was struck for the British Exhibition. Minted far in excess of demand, the Churchill crown fills dealer junk boxes across the land.
Recorded mintage: 9,640,000 plus a few Specimens.
