Great Britain 1965 crown

Stack's Bowers May 2023 Collector's Choice sale, lot 72478

This specimen was lot 72478 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2023), where it sold for $100. The catalog description^[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Crown, 1965. London Mint. Elizabeth II. NGC MS-65. The classic Churchill commemorative, this Gem yields some enchanting toning and a high degree of shimmering brilliance." This was the first crown struck since 1960, when a commemorative was struck for the British Exhibition. Minted far in excess of demand, the Churchill crown fills dealer junk boxes across the land.

Recorded mintage: 9,640,000 plus a few Specimens.
