This specimen was lot 30574 in Heritage sale 3037 (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $4,700. The catalog description[1] noted, "Paul I Poltina (1/2 Rouble) 1798 CM-MБ MS62 NGC, St. Petersburg mint, Bitkin-48, Severin-2425. Obv. Cruciform crowned Imperial monogram with the date. Rev. Four-line legend in garnished tablet. A pleasing Mint State example of this scarce type. The surfaces display a few flan flaws, but no significant handling marks. The luster is full, with attractive, original argent-gray and light gold patina. Very scarce in this condition." This poltina or half ruble was struck in this style 1798-1801. Like the other poltinas of the eighteenth century, it is scarce.

Reported Mintage: 284,000.

Specification: 10.37 g, 0.868 fine silver.
