Sedwick sale 11, lot 141

This specimen was lot 141 in Sedwick sale 9 (Winter Park, FL, April 2011), where it sold for $920. The catalog description[1] noted, "Zeeland, United Netherlands, double ducat, 1648. Decent VF, very slightly wavy flan and with solder-mark and nick in edge above knight's head (ex-jewelry), scarce type." Zeeland, along with several other Dutch provinces, issued gold ducats from the sixteenth century until the termination of the United Provinces by Napoleon in the 1790's.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 7 g, 0.986 fine gold, .220 troy oz AGW, this specimen 6.9 grams.
